If You Are a Licensed Appraiser and wish to upgrade to Certified Residential:

IF YOU ALREADY TOOK R3 & R4, you should Call NYS. You are Grandfathered regarding Education. Call 518-474-4429 with questions to NYS

If You DID NOT Take R3 and R4, you must follow the NEW Regulations to become a Certified Residential Appraiser in NY State, as follows:

· You already took R-1 Waived for R-5

· You already took R-2 Waived for R-6

· You already took 15 hr USPAP Waived for 15 Hour USPAP

You will also need:     R-7, R-8, R-9, R-10, SMF, R-11, and RE-2, which is a 20 hour elective course.

College is in addition to this requirement, as follows:(3 credit College courses) We also recommend you consider CLEP Exams and Empire State University, which will give you credit for certain non-credit courses you attended.

3. Finance 4. Algebra, Geometry or Higher Math Course

5. Statistics 6. Introduction to Computers, Word Processing/Spreadsheets

7. Business Law or Real Estate Law

Experience: You must show NYS that you have completed 2500 hours of experience over no less than 2 years and no more than 5 years– the logs will be presented to NYS when you apply. It is part of the application.

National Test for NYS– You must take the Licensing Lest when you have met the above requirements. Until then, you do not need to take the NYS test until such time as you have met the above regulations

In addition to the college-level course requirements, the appraisal education classroom hour requirement has increased for the State Licensed, State Certified Residential and State Certified General classifications. The Assistant classification is now 150 classroom hours. The  appraisal education classroom hours to become a State Licensed appraiser increased from 90 hours to 150 hours; Certified Residential appraisal education increased from 120 hours to 200 hours; and, Certified General appraisal education  increased from 180 hours to 300 hours.

There is now a Required Core Curriculum for each appraiser classification, as of 2008
